3-YEAR EVENT STATISTICS | WALTHAM, MA

Source: Weather Works

We had a total of 23 winter weather events that triggered multiple service actions in Waltham through the end of the 2023 season.

We actually saw a total of 40 of these types of events portfolio wide. These event totals continued the trend of being on par with the past 3 years, with the amount of precipitation and timing of the storms resulting in below average snow totals.

This mixed precipitation trend can be highlighted by the March 3rd-4th event, which began on March 3rd at 10pm and lasted through March 4th at 8pm. A mix of snow, sleet, rain, and freezing rain continuously fell over that 22 hour period. Most locations struggled to clear the 3 inch benchmark, but needed continuous de-icing service due to the freezing precipitation. Overall there were plenty of precipitation events and subfreezing weather to make for an active winter season; contrary to what some final snow totals may suggest.

While almost everyone did not see plowable snow until the Jan. 15th event, how the season ended varied very much on location. We saw snow totals ending at 15.3 in Mansfield, MA, all the way up to 51.9 inches in Nashua, NH.
